immediately

attacked

from

every

direction

by

what

seemed

to

be

a

very

clannish

and

unreasonable

bunch

of
members
(a

large

number

of

them

were

even

from

America)

who

didn't

seem

to

like

the

fact

that

he

had
posted

anything

on

the

forum

at

all,

but

the

fact

that

he

had

posted

to

every

single

topic

really

bent

them

out
of

shape.

They

instantly

accused

him

of

intentionally

spamming

their

forum

and

advertising

for

monetary

gain.
Codi
immediately

apologized

to

everyone

who

attacked

him

and

tried

to

explain

over

and

over

again

that

he
was

unfamiliar

with

how

forums

worked

and

he

was

only

looking

for

someone

to

partner

up

with

to

set

up

a
commercial

operation

on

his

property

but

they

would

have

none

of

it.

I

followed

it

as

it

played

out

and

wanted
to

intervene

but

Codi

said

no

and

after

a

few

days

the

clannish

members

finally

got

the

admin

of

the

site

to
delete

all

the

posts

connected

with

the

incident

and

then

ban

him

from

the

forum.
This

brought

Codi

down

really

bad.

I

mean

to

the

point

I

feared

for

his

health

because

of

it

but

he

went

right
back
to

his

routine

and

never

missed

a

step

or

mentioned

it

again.

I

on

the

other

hand

set

out

to

rectify

the
situation

to

whatever

extent

I

could.

I

wasn't

an

internet

guru

at

all

and

had

never

set

up

an

internet

web

site
at

that

time

let

alone

a

forum,

but

I

finally

pieced

one

together;

thus

the

birth

of

DIY

Aquaponics

and

the

DIY
Aquaponics

Forum
.
My

intention

was

to

use

the

website

and

forum

to

gain

support

for

Codi's

idea

to

set

up

a

commercial
operation
on

his

property

and

also

to

use

his

setup

as

a

state

side

school

to

teach

others

about

Aquaponics

in
a
hands

on

situation.

It

didn't

work

that

way.

The

forum

attracted

very

few

members

and

I

knew

nothing

about
running

a

forum

so

it

was

going

no

where

fast.

Codi

didn't

let

on

but

I

knew

the

whole

episode

had

really
gotten

to

him

down

and

within

a

short

time

after

all

this

took

place,

Codi

had

the

heart

attack

that

took

his

life.

To

this

day,

I

still

suspect

that

it

was

the

incident

with

the

forum

that

brought

it

on

but

regardless,

he

and

his
dreams

were

now

gone

and

I

had

lost

my

best

friend.
That

wasn't

bad

enough;

it

seemed

as

though

his

wife

had

just

been

waiting

for

him

to

die

because

within

no
time

at

all

she

had

sold

the

property,

took

her

leave

without

notice

or

so

much

as

a

word

to

me

and

moved

out
of

state.

I

had

been

taking

care

of

his

Aquaponics

system

and

selling

off

his

tropical

fish

at

his

wife's

request
when

this

all

took

place.

Then

one

day

the

greenhouse

and

what

few

of

his

fish

that

were

left

and

the

veggies
that

were

still

growing

like

crazy

were

there,

the

next

it

had

all

been

demolished,

including

the

concrete

slab

it
sat

on,

and

hauled

off.

All

the

hard

work

Codi

and

I

had

put

into

that

place

over

the

years...gone

in

an

instant
and
so

was

she.

I

have

never

heard

from

her

since.
Needless
to

say,

I

was

pretty

well

devastated

myself.

I

was

ready

to

call

it

quits

with

tropical

fish,

Aquaponics
and
the

forum

when

I

got

a

new

member

on

the

forum.

"BADFLASH"

was

his

user

name

and

he

almost
immediately

sent

me

a

PM

about

getting

the

forum

going

and

what

we

needed

to

do

to

get

there.

I

guess

he
helped

to

fill

the

void

left

by

Codi

to

some

extent

and

needless

to

say

if

it

had

not

been

for

him,

his

hard

work
and
his

support,

I

would

have

scrapped

it

all.
Since

that

time

BADFLASH

and

I

have

also

talked

about

attending

the

Aquaponics

school

at

the

UVI,
however

as

it

was

previously,

it

was

still

too

cost

prohibitive

for

us

as

it

had

been

with

me

and

Codi.
Over

the

years

since

Codi's

death

and

the

beginning

of

my

forum,

Aquaponic

websites

have

been

popping

up
like

weeds

in

a

garden.

Some

are

legitimate

but

most

are

run

by

persons

who

claim

to

know

all

there

is

to
know

about

Aquaponics

but

are

mostly

just

rehashing

in

words

on

the

net

what

they

have

read

from

someone
